Environmental and Water Resources Management [EWRM]
 
The Environmental and Water Resource Management Division is geared to conduct research and investigations relating to socio-economic and institutional issues in environmental and water resources management issues with particular reference to small farming sector in Sri Lanka. Much of its emphasis is on policy and socio–economic analysis relating to the broader areas of water and Environmental Resource Management, water users associations and other institutional arrangements and agrarian relations. The divisional contribution in dealing with issues in environment and water resources management through holding and coordinating conferences, seminars, symposiums and workshops and knowledge dissemination through electronic and printed media plays an important role in decision making at policy spheres.


The division mainly conducts research related to the following broad areas:
  • Research on irrigation and water resources management
  • Analysis on issues related to irrigation system maintenance and rehabilitation
  • Studies on sustainable water resources management Policy
  • Feasibilities and assessment of alternative irrigation systems at farm level
  • Irrigation Economics
  • Studies on Farmer Organizations, Farmer Companies and other institutional arrangements
  • Environmental economics and policy
